40 MSEK for more sustainable forestry
In a joint effort by the EU and European forest companies 40 MSEK is now invested in the new project EFFORTE. The aim is to develop and pilot new technologies and methods for increased sustainability in forest management. The project period extends until August 31 2019 and Södra is involved together with several research institutes and forest companies in Europe.
- We believe that the results will provide the partner countries and all Europe increased access and more efficient use of renewable raw materials and bioenergy from the forest resources, said Göran Örlander, Sustainable Forestry Strategist at Södra and Skogforsk Chairman. Moreover, it can mitigate climate change, and contribute to rural development, precision-oriented protection of soil, water, biodiversity and sensitive environments.
EFFORTE is coordinated by Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) and brings together European research organisations and forest industry from Finland, Sweden, France, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
