Refining our industrial structure

Södra Wood is strengthening and future-proofing its competitiveness, through a change in industrial structure to be implemented in 2024. In the short-term the changes will not affect our customers, but in the long term this will make us an even better supplier of wood products.
Here are the key changes, due to take place in stages over the next eight months or so:
- Klevshult’s sawmill operations will close and the mill is to be dedicated to planing, also taking on most the planing activities from Torsås.
- Ramkvilla will close and its planing operations will mostly transfer to Långasjö.
- Impregnation will be focused at Vaggeryd and Åstorp and the impregnation plant at Åtvidaberg will close.
- The Swedish merchant business will be focused at Kinda, ensuring there is one location where all products are available, and with improved delivery and service.
Some 70 employees will be affected by the changes.

”We work in a competitive industry where it is important to keep looking ahead and seeking continuous improvements,” says Södra Wood's business area manager Marcus Åsgärde. “This decision is about strengthening our position and building a business which is even more competitive in the long term, where Södra Wood's customer offer is at least as attractive as it is today. It is always hard when a change affects employees and during the process we will offer the best possible support to those involved.”

“Any change of this nature brings challenges,” says industrial structure, procurement and logistics manager at Södra Peo Ekberg. “But with more focused mills, reduced total transport distances and the ability to dedicate certain facilities to particular geographical markets, the end result will be a more efficient Södra Wood with better product flows and improved use of capacity. With these changes implemented, Södra Wood will be in a stronger position.”
