Waste no waste
Instead of contributing to landfill, our partners supply us with their blended-fiber textile waste. The textile waste we use is traceable, secured over several years, and consistent – to ensure that we have a reliable product for the long term. Today we only use RCS certified post-consumer textile waste.
Meet Åsa Alvhage, sourcing manager at OnceMore
What kind of textile waste does OnceMore source?
Today, we only use white polycotton, end-of-life textiles, post-consumer waste. We are looking into the possibilities of taking colored textile waste in the near future.
How does OnceMore source textile waste?
All our textile waste is sourced directly from our Return-partners. We have partners such as industrial laundries that sends us their discarded textiles (post-consumer waste).
What are the biggest challenges in sourcing material for recycling?
The biggest challenge is to get the whole value chain to work together – from someone’s end-of-life textiles to a new garment. There is so much to do in this field of textile recycling. I believe that we need to work together to get full traceability and transparency. In the same way that we have been sorting textiles for secondhand market, we also need to sort for recycling.
What are your priorities for sourcing these materials in the coming years?
Our priorities are always to find the right quality in high volumes, to a reasonable price. Today we process approximately 2 000 tonnes of textiles every year. To do this, we need to build close partnerships where we can grow together.
