Fossil-Free Södra: The journey continues
As part of our Fossil-Free Södra project, we are investing in an electric long-haul truck to transport woodchips. The truck will use a self-charging electric battery, dramatically reducing carbon footprint compared to the fossil-fuel equivalent. The Scania 64-tonne capacity truck will be delivered towards the end of the year and will hopefully be followed not long after by a similar truck for pulp deliveries.
Logistics Manager, Johan Sundberg: “These investments represent a milestone in Södra’s long-term goal of transitioning to fossil-free transportation. Road transport plays a key role in the Swedish forest industry, and as one of the largest buyers of transport services in the country, we are working hard to make our logistics more efficient and environmentally friendly. The next step will be an electrified truck for pulp transportation, and we hope to have some news on this in just a few months’ time.”
