Our mill in Mörrum
It was Södra's founder Gösta Edström who realised in 1962 that the delta of the Mörrum river was the perfect place for a pulp mill: It is ideally located close to members’ sustainable softwood and hardwood forests which provide the raw materials for Mörrum’s pulp. Proximity to the major harbour in Karlshamn means that Mörrum is never far from its customers in Europe.
Much of the pulp produced at Mörrum is exported to paper mills in Europe where it may end up in anything from magazines and books to tea bags or paper napkins.
Production of dissolving pulp started in 2011 and the mill’s reputation for quality and reliability has grown rapidly. Production goes to a leading producer in Europe as well as textile pulp mills in Asia.
Mörrum has a history of major investments in efficient energy management, green energy production, environmental best practice and staff expertise.
Sustainable fashion - OnceMore®
In 2019, Mörrum introduced the world to groundbreaking technology for sustainable fashion. The OnceMore® process can separate the cotton in blended fabrics and combine it with the mill’s dissolving pulp to create a new material containing recycled textiles. This is the start of a journey with huge potential to shake up the fashion industry for a more sustainable future.
