In a move designed to strengthen our commitment to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), we have created a role dedicated entirely to meeting our SBTi commitments. The new position of Climate Impact Engineer will be taken up by Knut Omholt who is currently Head of Market Analysis at Södra Cell International.

In line with the SBTi, Södra has committed to halving scope 1,2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared with 2020, and to reaching net zero by 2040. Södra Cell, which accounts for a significant part of the Group's carbon footprint, is now focusing its efforts to meet these targets.

From November 1, Knut will be responsible for coordinating the emission reduction actions now being initiated at our pulp mills and within Södra Cell International. He has both a technical and commercial background and will be Södra Cell's representative in the coordination group for Södra's climate work at Group level.

“Climate change is the biggest environmental challenge we face today, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to help Södra reach its ambitious, important targets. We are very aware that within the framework of SBTi our customers’ goals are our goals in terms of reducing environmental impact. As well as step-by-step efforts on our part, we need to collaborate across the value chain to get this right, for ourselves, our customers and for a more sustainable future. I intend to do everything I can to help ensure we get there.”
